ThunTek Help Desk: Startup Questions


      We are excited to announce many upgrades within Thuntek. We are upgrading facilities to improve your Internet service. These facilities are in place now and ready to use. Due to an accelerated schedule, we ask that you please make the necessary changes, for your login type as described below, no later than Dec 8, 2004.

 

DSL Customers:

To take advantage of these new facilities we ask that you modify your login you use to access Thunder Networks with a "@thuntek.net" on the end of your login name within your DSL router. Please do not touch the password field or any other settings, these will not change.

Here is an example:

Old way:        Login name:     joe
                        Password:        ********

New Sign in Procedure:

                       Login name:     joe@thuntek.net
                       Password:        ********

Here's how you do it:

Fire up a web browser, and point it to http://192.168.0.1, which is the default address of the gateway.  Use "admin" as the login name and no password (Shipping configuration). You will get the main menu for the web interface to the gateway.  Click "Setup/Configuration".

On the left there is a sidebar with the heading "Basic Setup." 

The first section of this page is headed "ISP Protocol".  Choose Input your Thunder Network username and password. Remember, your username must be in the form of name@thuntek.net. So if your login name is "joe", then the correct login name is joe@thuntek.net.

Do not change any other settings at this time.

Click the button "Save and Restart."

You are now done!

 

Albuquerque (& surrounding areas) Dial-up Customers:

We will be using new phone numbers to access dialup services and discontinuing access to our old number 998-8000 on Dec 8, 2004. To take advantage of these new facilities we ask that you change the phone number you use to access Thuntek to 938-1410 and place @thuntek.net on the end of your login name. Please do not touch the password field or any other settings, these will not change.

Here is an example:

Old way:        Login name:     joe
                        Password:       ********
                        Number:         998-8000

 

New Sign In Procedure:

                Login name:     joe@thuntek.net
                Password:        ********
                Number:          938-1410

Santa Fe (& surrounding areas) Dial-up Customers:

We will be using new phone numbers to access dialup services and discontinuing access to our old number of 992-2879 on Dec 8. To take advantage of these new facilities we ask that you change the phone number you use to access Thuntek to 672-1772.  Please remember to keep the @thuntek.net on the end of your login name. Please do not touch the password field or any other settings, these will not change.

What minimum hardware do I need to connect to ThunTek?

  • PC with 200-MHz processor, 32 megabytes RAM, 33.6 modem or better, Windows 98, ME, NT4, 2000, XP.
  • Any Macintosh Power PC or iMac, 32 megabytes RAM, 33.6 modem or better, OS 9 or X.

What information do you need to sign me up with an account?

For all ThunTek accounts, we need the following:

  • Your name, address and phone number
  • Your desired login name (eight characters or less, first one not a digit)
  • Your desired login password (any length)
  • One or two optional e-mail aliases (only if you wish to receive mail addressed to names other than your login name)
  • Your first payment (cash, check, money order, credit card)

For all Tier accounts, we also need the following:

  • Your computer operating system (98, ME, NT4, 2000, XP, OS 9, X)
  • Your computer brand name (if any)
  • Your computer CPU type and speed (e.g. AMD or Pentium 200)
  • Your modem speed (make and model if you know it)

I want to register a domain name. What information do you need?

  • Very exact spelling of domain requested
  • Company name (if it will be owned by a company)
  • Contact person's name (either owner or company contact)
  • Street address or PO box of owner, with ZIP code
  • Phone number of company
  • E-mail contact of company

E-mail this information to domains@thuntek.net with the subject set to NEW DOMAIN WHATEVER.COM where WHATEVER is your requested domain name. Your request will be registered after arrangement is made for payment of the registration fee.
 

 

I have all the Internet software I need, and I know how to configure my own PPP connection. What are ThunTek's DNS numbers?
