What's new in version 1.22 of PhotoAccess?
The latest version of PhotoAccess is version 1.22 dated 11/2/97, is downloadable from this site. This version provides two important changes to V 1.21. First, a bug was fixed in the PhotoAccess TWAIN code that prevented using the TWAIN download interface with some digital cameras. The digital cameras showed up on the source list, but nothing happened when the Aquire button was hit. Second, a bug was fixed in the Import All command. Import All was not working when the files selected were in the root directory of a logical drive.
This latest version if available from the Downloads page on this site both as a full download (3 Mbytes) or as an executable only (800 Kbytes). If you already have PhotoAccess V1.2 installed on your system, the latest executable can be downloaded and directly copied (it is not compressed) over your existing Photo Access.exe file, which is by default located in c:\program files\rgvs\photo access\.
What's new in version 1.21 of PhotoAccess?
The previous version of PhotoAccess was version 1.21 dated 10/15/97. As the version number suggests, that version PhotoAccess mostly provided some bug fixes for version 1.2. The most important fix corrected an error that could occur after deleting a field from a database that already contained photos and data. When the modified PAA file was being saved to disk, an unhandled exception could occur (which is a fancy name for bombing the program). This version also fixed an error that could occur when importing odd size photos from a TWAIN device (most likely a scanner). Also, several other TWAIN tweaks were added, primarily for scanners we found that don't quite play by the TWAIN rules.
What was new in version 1.2 of PhotoAccess?
The previous version of PhotoAccess is version 1.2, dated 8/19/97, provided many new features over version 1.0.. The "import all" feature allowed users to import groups of photos from their hard disk all at once. The software also automatically recorded the date and time of the photos when the database contained date and time fields. Also, an option, "save page as image" saved entire layout pages as a new photo, thus allowing users to create composites of many photos, and then treat them in other software as a single photo. Also, you could create and save any number of new database definitions, and give those database definitions to other users. Finally, several TWAIN tweaks were added to better support some digital cameras within unconventional TWAIN drivers.
How do I Use TWAIN support?
Photoaccess interfaces to devices (camera, scanners, the Snappy, etc.) through a standard interface called TWAIN. The software provided with these devices sometimes doesn't automatically install TWAIN support.
If TWAIN support for your device is properly installed, the "Select Source" button from the Gallery should bring up a dialog box with the name of your device as one of the source options. If this is not the case, consult the main PhotoAccess help file (index entries for TWAIN) for tips and instructions on how to install TWAIN properly on your system.
Rio Grande Valley Software has come across digital cameras that have unusually implemented TWAIN drivers. If you experience problems when using TWAIN with your camera, contact RGVS for technical support (again, listed in the help file).
